Since Turkey launched an anti-terror operation in northern Syria last Wednesday, a total of 24 people have been remanded into custody for spreading online disinformation, security sources said on Wednesday.

The nationwide operations of cyber security units arrested 186 people over the last week for smearing Turkey’s ongoing Operation Peace Spring east of the Euphrates River in northern Syria via news void of any source and supporting the terror groups online.

On Oct. 9, Turkey launched its third operation in Syria to eliminate YPG/PKK terrorists from east of the Euphrates in order to secure Turkey’s borders, aid in the safe return of Syrian refugees, and ensure Syria’s territorial integrity.

The investigation by security sources revealed that almost 840 people had criminal posts on social media, with 62 of the accounts were run in Germany, England and France, since the start of Turkey’s counter-terrorism operation.

Under coordination of the Interior Ministry, security forces oversee online accounts round the clock to take measures against threats targeting Turkey’s integrity, constitutional order, national security.

Ankara wants to clear northern Syria east of the Euphrates River of the terrorist PKK and its Syrian offshoot, the PYD/YPG.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union — has been responsible for deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
